Gender Equality Plan – A project work

A Gender Equality Plan (GEP) is a strategic document designed to promote gender equality within organisations. The new Framework Programme for Research and Innovation reaffirmed the European Commission commitment to foster diversity and inclusion and create a more equitable environment for all members of the university community. As part of the European Commission Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025, for calls with deadlines in 2022 and onwards, having a GEP became an eligibility criterion for all public bodies, higher education institutions and research organisations from EU Member States and associated countries wishing to participate in Horizon Europe.

Among the most gender-sensitive universities, several tools have been developed to address gender inequalities not only at the university level, but also at the level of single departments and research units. It is in this frame that an administrative employee of the University of Milan, and master’s student in Diversity management, equality, and inclusion at the University of Trento, developed her project work. Specifically, data was collected on a university department in seven main areas: work-life balance and organisational culture; gender balance in leadership and decision-making; gender equality in recruitment and career progression; integration of the gender dimension into research; integration of the gender dimension into teaching content; public engagement; institutional gender networks.

Partnership: The project was conducted in the frame of the Master GeDIE – Gestione delle Diversità: Inclusione ed Equità of the University of Trento.

Duration: May – August 2023.
